«Für mich steht Punk für eine kurze und intensive Zeit Ende der 70, als Reaktion auf politische und wirtschaftliche Missstände in der Gesellschaft, sowie auch kulturelle Konflikte. Das aufkommen der National Front in England und die miserablen Arbeitsbedingungen der Jugend, wie auch die sehr konservativen Kräfte in den USA und das versagen der Hippie Bewegung erforderten eine Reaktion, die sich meines Erachtens in der Wave und Punk Bewegung manifestierte. Musik und Mode wurden völlig umgekrempelt und sicherlich revolutioniert. Anarchie in the UK, der Titel einer Sex Pistols Platte brachte das Aufbegehren der Jugend und die Stimmung, in der sie sich befand, wohl ziemlich treffend rüber. Die Provokation des Bürgers, sowie die DIY-Haltung sehe ich weiterhin als eine der wenigen möglichen Reaktionen, welche die Jugend hatte, um auf einen aufkommenden Faschismus, sowie eine konservative Gesellschaft zu reagieren.»

Gesang und Melodie eines Stückes werden teilweise oder ganz weggelassen, prinzipiell der Subtraktion folgend bis auf den Kern der Komposition. Der so geschaffene Raum ermöglicht das Experimentieren mit Mischtechniken und Effekten (Reverb, Delay, Phaser, Flanger, Pan…).  «Dub besteht in erster Linie aus Drums und Bass. Um dieses Grundgerüst entstehen die Tracks, welche zumindest traditionell Variationen einzelner Riddims waren, welche wiederum das Grundgerüst eines jeden Reggaesongs bildeten. Je nach Produzent sind Echos, Gesangselemente oder Melodiefragmente zusätzliche Bestandteil, die zusammen mit dem repetivien Moment eine eigenständige, sich stark vom origingalen Song unterscheidende Version entstehen lässt.»

Dub Inspiration

 « Neue Genres werden häufig zu Definitionszwecken und aus reinen Verlegenheit definiert. Streng genommen bewegen wir uns auf einen Zerfall der Musikstile hinzu. Heute stellen Länder, Regionen und Städte, demzufolge die darin lebenden Personen die Kategorien dar und verflüssigen die Musikrichtungen. Dub ist hier mal Genre, da mal Stilmittel, woanders eine Herausforderung. Ich versuche mich daher nicht nur in einem Genre aufzuhalten. Von wo her die Musik kommt –Space & Klangfarben – ist für mich fast entscheidender, als in Genres zu denken. Mit new.com, Lukem und Qwan Studios habe ich grossartige Sparringpartner und eine wahnsinnige Quelle aus sich immerzu mutierenden Genres, von welchen ich momentan dubwised electronic Music am spannendsten finde.»

Dub Definition

 «Dub ist spannend, andersartig und reduziert. Eine durch gezielte Effekte gespickte Musikrichtung mit Geschichte und Hintergrund, die mich, als inspirierende Quelle, elektronische Musik aus einem anderen Blickwinkel wahrnehmen und lieben lässt. Mit dem geraden 4/4-Takt und klar definierten Elementen gross geworden ist Dub, neben Drum'n'Bass, foundation Dubstep und zahlreichen Ambientrichtungen eine ganz andere Welt, die mich erst richtig mitreissen konnte, als ich genauer hinhörte und bereit war die Musik zu verstehen.»
