Outranging Dub

«Moden und Musikstile vermischen sich heutzutage schneller und verschwinden auch so schnell sie erschienen sind wieder (Beispiel: Dubstep). Ich empfinde es allgemein so, dass die Jugend- und Subkulturen und deren Bewegungen am verschwinden sind, was wohl an der ständigen Verfügbarkeit von Allem liegt und dem Zeitgeist von heute entspricht.»

Dub Szene Schweiz

 «In der Schweiz gibt es einige Produzenten und DJs, die sich mit Dub beschäftigen. Ich denke, dass in Genf wohl die grösste und konstanteste Dub Szene zuhause ist. OBF sind von Genf und leisten seit Jahren gute und kontinuierliche Arbeit. Das Tengu Colltective aus St. Gallen mischt soviel ich weiss auch gut mit. In Biel, wo ich selbst lange mitgeholfen habe Dub-Nächte zu organisieren, gibt es immernoch das Tribute Soundsystem und Kabra, auch junge Organisatoren machen ab und Dub Partys, wo Zenit teilweise auflegt. Kabra macht auch selbst immernoch straighte Dub Musik.»

Rastafari

 «Ob die Verknüpfung von Dub mit der Rastafari-Bewegung als Fluch oder Segen angeschaut werden muss, ist schwierig zu beantworten. Ich denke die Spiritualität ist bei Dub wirklich spürbar, deshalb auch die Meditationsgeschichte. Aber religiöse Verknüpfungen und andere Dogmatisierung jeder Art lehne ich grundsätzlich ab. Aus meiner Sicht ist Dub eine Öffnung, welche das Mischen von Sounds und Effekten, wie auch Genres und Epochen zulässt und somit ein Experimentierfeld darstellt.

Ich erinnere mich an einen Besuch einer Cultural Warriors-Veranstaltung im Genfer Dub-Club, an welchem Aba-Shanti-I spielte. Der Sound war purer und roher Steppers-Dub. Unterstützt mit dem entsprechendem Sound System und einem wummerndem Bass, war es für mich purer Rave Sound, mit meditativen Charakter. Entsprechend gingen wir zu der Musik ab. Die Rastas und Puristen im Club hatten wenig Freude an uns tanzenden White Boys und mahnten uns zur Zurückhaltung. Leider ein wenig ein Zeichen von Uneasyness und Dogmatisierung in diesem Zusammenhang.

Man kann Jah einfach als Begriff für die Kraft und Spiritualität der Musik sehen, so lässt es sich auch besser akzeptieren. Jedem seine Interpretation.»

 «Aus den Genres, welche von Dub inspiriert sind, interessieren mich vor allem die Bass-Geschichten. Ich denke da passiert viel Spannendes, von Noise bis Clubmusik. Es ist ein sehr offener Begriff und deshalb Genre-übergreifend, was mir sehr gefällt. »

Dub Story

 «Dub hatte ich das erste Mal durch Radio Dadio in Biel, ein Steppers-Dub Soundsystem, kurz nach der Jahrtausendwende wahrgenommen. Ich hörte schon als Teenie Dub (Kiffen und so), aber so richtig bewusst setze ich mich mit Dub durch den Kontakt mit Zenit, Dada (heute Jah Kabra) und Koolkat auseinander. Ich war damals inmitte der Grime Welle, als plötzlich Dub und Grime sich zu verschmelzen begannen. Eine Offenbarung. Wir vereinten uns dann später zu einer Crew.»
