«L.I.E.S entdeckte ich über Soundcloud. Es hat mir auf Anhieb gefallen, was alles unter diesem Gemischtwarenladen zu finden ist. Stichworte wie DIY und fuck the majors sind immer aktuell und dementsprechend wichtig, wenn ich so sehe, wie mächtig die Majors den Markt beherrschen mit all deren dazugehörigen Kanälen. Für Acts sind DIY-Labels eine Möglichkeit ohne künstlerische Verbiegungen neben dem Mainstream zu agieren und auch gehört zu werden.»

«Ich glaube das heute der Grossteil der Labels, die sich in Gefilden der elektronischen Musik betätigen, einen absolut selbstverständlichen Umgang mit DIY, respektive fuck the majors haben. Dies wahrscheinlich nichtmal aus primär ideologischen Gründen, sondern vielmehr aus pragmatischen Motiven und dem Mangel an Alternativen. Einerseits besteht, zumindest theoretisch, eine funktionierende Infrastruktur um Musik im DIY-Style zu vertreiben zur Verfügung, anderseits konzentrieren sich die Majors so stark auf ihr Kerngeschäft - Acts mit mindestens Top 40 Potential -, dass es in diesem Markt für den Grossteil des musikalischen Outputs schlicht keinen Platz gibt.
DIY, fuck the majors in Bezug auf die Punk-Bewegung der 70er Jahre ist allenfalls noch anzufügen, dass da sehr oft ein nostalgisch-verklärtes Bild transportiert wird. Zumal die meisten der relevanten Acts in England, wie auch in den USA, sich früher oder später auf meist miserable Major-Deals einliessen und schliesslich gerne auch das ganze Programm, inklusive Top Of The Pops-Auftritten etc., mitmachten.»

«Die Idee von Punk als Genre oder als Lebenshaltung kann ich nachvollziehen und finde sie teilweise auch sehr spannend. Gewisse Punk-Sachen mochte ich früher sehr und war in den 90er Jahren auch öfters an Punk-Konzerten. Die Kollegen von damals fand ich aber oft etwas eingeschränkt und nervig, da ihre Interessen nicht über Punk hinausgingen, was mir mit der Zeit etwas beschränkt vorkam. Ihre Einstellung war mir zu eng und langweilig, deshalb hatte ich auch nicht lange mit der Punkszene in Basel zu tun.
Die Musik mag ich teilweise auch Heute noch, aber eher die älteren Sachen. Aktuelle Punkbands die noch klingen wollen wie früher finde ich etwas schwierig und unpassend. Die oft sehr konservative Haltung widerspricht irgendwie der Idee von Punk. Punk muss sich in meinen Augen immer wieder erneuern. Dieses Punk-Erlebnis hatte ich in den letzten Jahren mehr bei Noise- oder Breakcore-Sachen. Ich denke Punks die sich auf Punk-Musik beschränken sind irgendwie stehen geblieben.»

«Ich denke L.I.E.S kann man durchaus mit Punk in Verbindung setzten. Die Geschwindigkeit der Releases, sowie die Soundqualität und Ästetik sind für mich sehr punknah. Auch finde ich L.I.E.S ein sehr vielfältiges Label.
Ron Morelli ist hyperaktiv und haut uns wirklich Release nach Release um die Ohren. L.I.E.S hat sich sehr schnell entwickelt. Anfänglich noch eher in der House- und Techno-Ecke zu Hause, entwickelte sich das Label dann schnell in Richtung Acid und Analogtechno. LIES war da jeweils vorne mit dabei, ich hoffe das geht so weiter.»

«Ich glaube die Tatsache, dass L.I.E.S. dem Punk sehr nahe ist, hat vor allem einen geographischen Grund:
New York war - wenn man den überlieferten Stories Glauben schenkt - wohl schon sehr früh eine der Städte, wo die verschiedenen Jugendkulturen nicht nur neben- sondern miteinander existierten. Und eine davon war damals eben die NYHC New York Hardcore Szene. Diese war für viele heranwachsende Kids nicht unwichtig, weil es da auch Sunday Matinee-Shows ohne Altersbeschränkung gab. War man unter 21 und wollte trotzdem was erleben, so bot sich diese Kultur entsprechend an. Dass durch diesen frühen Zugang auch früh eine Haltung geformt werden kann, wäre eine Erklärung.
Allgemein gesprochen und nicht nur auf L.I.E.S. bezogen war die DIY-Labelkultur extrem wichtig, weil diese sich auch über Musikgrenzen hinweg etabliert hat. Und diese hat sich nun mal aus dem Punk-Gedanken heraus entwickelt.»

«Früher war Punk Anti, heute lässt sich die Welt kaum noch in nur zwei Dimensionen teilen. Kann sein, dass L.I.E.S. diese Karte bewusst spielt und damit im Kontext elektronisches Label aus den USA aus dem Rahmen fällt. Aber eigentlich macht L.I.E.S. damit vor allem auf ebendiese Haltung aufmerksam, die es heute - vom Kontext DIY her gesehen - tausendfach gibt. Labels und Leute die Sachen machen, weil sie genau diese Sachen tun wollen und zwar auf eine bestimmte Art. Gerade in Europa und in der Schweiz haben Punk und DIY eine lange Tradition, die sich längst vom eigentlichen Musikgenre gelöst haben.»

«Der Grund für das erneute Interesse an Acid House - das aber schon sehr stark am abkühlen ist - ist wohl auf drei Bereiche zurückzuführen:
Erstens konnte sich das Element nach einer vollkommenen Übernutzung wieder etwas erholen. Eine Acid-Line zeigte wieder eine Wirkung durch ihre Abgrenzung von anderem.
Zweitens erlebte der ganze Bereich von Chicago House viel Aufmerksamkeit und als direkte Konsequenz daraus entstand auch wieder ein Interesse für Acid (da könnte man jetzt die Huhn und Ei Frage stellen...). Vielleicht könnte man denn Anfang dieses Prozesses irgendwo bei Nu Rave finden.
Im dritten Bereich schmeiss ich jetzt einfach ein paar Faktoren rein die zusammenhängen: Da wären die Entstehung vom Jakbeat im Amerikanischen Raum: Traxx, D’Marc Cantu, Steve Summers und so produzieren reduzierten (auch auf Acid reduzierten) Chicago House. Dann weiter der aufkommende Fetisch um analoge Produktion: Eine TB-303 ist wohl das Geräte, welches diesen Fetisch am Besten befriedigt und eine Logik von analoger Produktion sowohl in der Handhabung als auch in ihrer Geschichte am stärksten widerspiegelt. Ein letzter Faktor ist sicher auch das Interesse an „Outsider-House“ gelabelten Geschichten (ich könnt gleich loskotzen wenn ich den Begriff höre): L.I.E.S., Créme, Bunker, M<O<S, etc. verweisen klar auf die zwitschernden Bassline, die 808 Rhythmus-Struktur, usw.
Zu dem wie ich das erlebt habe: Leute wie Ben UFO, oder auch Bok Bok, begannen in ihren Bass Sets auch wieder vermehrt wieder Acid-Geschichten zu spielen. Daraus entstand auch für mich das Interesse an Chicago/Jakbeat/Acid. Das war ungefähr vor drei Jahren. Und in den letzten zwei Jahren waren die ganzen analogen Produktionen, die harten Acid Techno Sachen aber auch Chicago House omnipräsent. Das Interesse an Acid ist jetzt allerdings wieder am schwinden. Das ist auch gut so. Denn es braucht ein Weiterdenken, nur Acid House kann nicht die Lösung sein. Auch eine TB-303 muss sich an eine Post-Situation gewöhnen.»
