«Es ist sicherlich so, dass Dub, ob nun in seiner ursprünglichen oder in moderner Form, immer wieder auch andere Musikrichtungen beeinflusst hat. Das kommt und geht seit ich mich dafür interessiere. Aktuell kann man z.B. feststellen, dass Dubstep ziemlich langweilig geworden ist, dafür Dubtechno, welcher in den Neuzigerjahren schon mal gross war, wieder auf dem Tapet erscheint. Interssant finde ich auch, dass in Jamaica jüngere Prodzenten wieder Dubversions einspielen, was lange nicht mehr der Fall war.»

 «Es ist immer spannend, wenn es eine Musikrichtung schafft Leute mit zu ziehen, die damit etwas aufbauen. Mir persönlich geht es bei der Musik im Allgemeinen aber nur um die Musik selbst, alles drumherum bleibt sekundär. Eine Szene und vor allem - Menschen im seinem Umfeld zu haben, mit denen man sich über eine Musikrichtung austauschen kann, ist schön und kann auch sehr kreativ sein. Ob es dann wirklich eine Bewegung, oder gar eine Religion benötigt, wage ich zu bezweifeln, da ich selbst auch nichts von Religionen halte. Eine Bewegung, oder Glaubensrichtung gar mit einem bestimmten Musikstil zu bewerben fände ich abstrus und unehrlich.»

 «Ich stimme zu, das Dub über Musik hinaus geht. Neben der Musik hat Dub auch seine visuelle und politische Sprache. Es gab einige bekannte Rastafari-Produzenten und Musiker, die die Musik mitgeprägt haben. Es ist aber nicht so, dass die Rastafaribewegung den Reggae oder den Dub erfunden hätte. Vielmehr ist aus dem speziellen Zustand des Landes, Jamaica war lange in einer wirtschaftlichen und politischen Depression, die Identität der Musik mit dem Spirituellen der Rastafari angereichert worden.

 

Diese Identität ist auf positiven Grundsätzen aufgebaut. Man wollte etwas bewegen und daran zu glauben, insofern ist es ein Segen. Die Musik hat den Jamaicans eine positive Identität geben und auch neue Chancen eröffnet.»

 «Ob die Verknüpfung von Dub mit der Rastafari-Bewegung als Fluch oder Segen angeschaut werden muss, ist schwierig zu beantworten. Ich denke die Spiritualität ist bei Dub wirklich spürbar, deshalb auch die Meditationsgeschichte. Aber religiöse Verknüpfungen und andere Dogmatisierung jeder Art lehne ich grundsätzlich ab. Aus meiner Sicht ist Dub eine Öffnung, welche das Mischen von Sounds und Effekten, wie auch Genres und Epochen zulässt und somit ein Experimentierfeld darstellt.

Ich erinnere mich an einen Besuch einer Cultural Warriors-Veranstaltung im Genfer Dub-Club, an welchem Aba-Shanti-I spielte. Der Sound war purer und roher Steppers-Dub. Unterstützt mit dem entsprechendem Sound System und einem wummerndem Bass, war es für mich purer Rave Sound, mit meditativen Charakter. Entsprechend gingen wir zu der Musik ab. Die Rastas und Puristen im Club hatten wenig Freude an uns tanzenden White Boys und mahnten uns zur Zurückhaltung. Leider ein wenig ein Zeichen von Uneasyness und Dogmatisierung in diesem Zusammenhang.

Man kann Jah einfach als Begriff für die Kraft und Spiritualität der Musik sehen, so lässt es sich auch besser akzeptieren. Jedem seine Interpretation.»

 «Man soll zu jedem Zeitpunkt respektieren, woher etwas kommt oder wie es entstanden ist. Die Rastafari-Bewegung als solches habe ich nur begrenzt selber mitbekommen. Heute darf man sicher behaupten, dass Dub schon lange nicht mehr «nur» ein reines Rasta-Movement ist. Es ist schön, Reggae und artverwandtes als Teil seiner Herkunft und Religion zu sehen, mittlerweile haben sich – nicht zuletzt auch durch die Offenheit der Begründer – die vielen Entfaltungen aber schon in diversen anderen Ecken der Gesellschaft etabliert, was auch wünschenswert ist.»
