Dub Definition
«Bei Dub geht es prinzipiell um Bass und die Reduktion und Ausdünnen von Rhythmik und Klang. Gesang und Melodie eines Stückes werden teilweise oder ganz weggelassen, prinzipiell der Subtraktion folgend bis auf den Kern der Komposition. Der so geschaffene Raum ermöglicht das Experimentieren mit Mischtechniken und Effekten (Reverb, Delay, Phaser, Flanger, Pan…). Dub ist humorvoll, lebt von einer gewissen dadaistische Veranlagung die Zeit dehnen zu können und war der Anfang vom Sampling. Historisch gesehen ist Dub aus dem Roots-Reggae der 60/70er Jahren entstanden und heisst auch Erneutes Überspielen/to double. Seit den 90er Jahren ist dubbing in der elektronischen Musik ein festes Stilmittel und Dank den vielen Facetten der elektronisch produzierten Musik dem breiten Publikum ein Begriff. Lee Scratch Perry meinte mal: Anything can be dub.»
