«Ich verfolge Huismann's Arbeit seit der ersten Stunde. Das neue Album ist wirklich sehr gut und öffnet die vom Dubstep und Grime stammende neue englische Generation wie Skream oder Ben UFO & Hessle Audio in die jetzige Entwicklungen der langsameren Tanzmusik - Geschwindigkeiten werden gedrosselt und alles nochmals zeitloser und hypnotischer produziert. Scuba oder Shackleton machen das schon länger. Aber diese Szene schafft nun definitiv den Sprung vom Future Step, UK Bass über Dubtechno oder Techhouse ins Slowhouse und eben Disco! Einer der spannendsten Entwicklungen der letzten 10 Jahre allgemein - die neue englische Undergroundmusic-Front - muss ich ja wohl nicht erwähnen... ;-)»

«Ich bin ein grosser Fan von Kahn & Neek aka Gorgon Sound. Mit ihren kompromisslosen Grime- und Dub-Produktionen und erfrischenden DJ-Sets haben sie wieder etwas Bewegung in die Dubstep-Szene gebracht. Auch die Produktionen vom Young Echo Kollektiv finde ich sehr spannend. Zudem finde ich so ziemlich alles was auf Livity Sound veröffentlicht wurde grossartig, da dieses Label meiner Meinung nach jedes Mal die perfekte Verschmelzung von House, Techno, Grime und Bassmusik schafft. Tectonic und Punch Drunk gehören für mich weiterhin zu den besten Labels überhaupt, und auch die eiskalten Techno & Grime Fusionen auf Pinch's neuem Label Cold Recordings haben es mir angetan. Dann gibt es in Bristol ein paar sehr vielversprechende Nachwuchskünstler wie Facta und Hodge, die wieder vermehrt in der Lücke zwischen Dubstep, Bassmusik und House operieren. Und da wären noch All Caps und Hotline Recordings, zwei neuere Bass-Labels die meiner Meinung nach von A-Z alles richtig machen. Black Acre sollte ich auch noch erwähnen, die haben sich im weitesten Sinne von einem reinen Dubstep-Label zu einer sehr interessanten Plattform für elektronische Musik entwickelt. Ich könnte die Liste wohl noch eine Weile fortsetzen...»

« Ich habe früher viel Massive Attack und Portishead gehört und auch zu Drum’n’Bass-Zeiten habe ich die Szene in Bristol immer mitgeschnitten. Als ich später anfing, Dubstep-Platten zu kaufen, gehörten Tectonic und Punch Drunk bald zu meinen Lieblings-Labels. Folglich begann ich zahlreiche Künstler und Labels aus dieser Stadt aktiv mitzuverfolgen. Alles in allem wäre die Bassmusik- und Dubstep-Szene ohne Bristol nur halb so interessant.»

«Es ist sicherlich so, dass Dub, ob nun in seiner ursprünglichen oder in moderner Form, immer wieder auch andere Musikrichtungen beeinflusst hat. Das kommt und geht seit ich mich dafür interessiere. Aktuell kann man z.B. feststellen, dass Dubstep ziemlich langweilig geworden ist, dafür Dubtechno, welcher in den Neuzigerjahren schon mal gross war, wieder auf dem Tapet erscheint. Interssant finde ich auch, dass in Jamaica jüngere Prodzenten wieder Dubversions einspielen, was lange nicht mehr der Fall war.»

«Dub ist spannend, andersartig und reduziert. Eine durch gezielte Effekte gespickte Musikrichtung mit Geschichte und Hintergrund, die mich, als inspirierende Quelle, elektronische Musik aus einem anderen Blickwinkel wahrnehmen und lieben lässt. Mit dem geraden 4/4-Takt und klar definierten Elementen gross geworden ist Dub, neben Drum'n'Bass, foundation Dubstep und zahlreichen Ambientrichtungen eine ganz andere Welt, die mich erst richtig mitreissen konnte, als ich genauer hinhörte und bereit war die Musik zu verstehen.»

«Ich habe, als ehemaliger DnB-DJ, die ganze Dubstep-Szene mit einem gewissen Interesse verfolgt, aber recht wenig davon auch gekauft. Wirklich interessant finde ich, was aus dieser Szene oder anders gesagt, als nächster Schritt nach Dubstep so alles passiert ist. Dabei auch die für England eher untypische Öffnung nach aussen, vor allem in Richtung Berlin und damit in Richtung Techno. Auch wenn da nichts mehr vom Dub übrig blieb, gehört das irgendwie doch dazu. Ansonst interessiert und berührt mich nach wie vor der analoge ursprüngliche Dub aus Jamaica am meisten. Die Faszination für die Studiotüfteleien und die daraus resultierenden Ergebnisse ist ungebrochen.»

«Für das wiederaufgeflammte Interesse an Jungle und frühen Breakbeat aus England gäbe es wohl zwei verschiedene Erklärungen: Eine zynische Variante, die das ganze im Sinne einer Reynold'schen Retromanie als Wiederverwertung und Wiederkäuen einer kulturellen Bewegung der 90er begreifen würde. Und ein positive, affirmierende Position, die dieses Interesse als Pflege und Aktualisierung eines wichtigen Erbes sähe. Man muss jedoch glaub ich auch sehen, dass die Engländer selbst diese Stile nie "vergessen" haben - auf dem Festland besteht wohl einfach jetzt nach der Ausdifferenzierung von Dubstep das Bedürfnis, sich auch intensiver mit dessen Wurzeln auseinanderzusetzen.»

«So 2006 oder 2007 habe ich Mary Anne Hobbs' Show auf Radio 1 entdeckt und damit Grime und Dubstep. Ich habe mich dann aber mehr für Dubstep interessiert. Erst Jahre später erlebte ich Elijah & Skilliam an einer Party am Rande des Sónar im Razzmatazz – das ging schon mächtig ab.»

«Vom Techno, House und Dub her kommend, habe ich mir Ende 2006 den Dubstep erschlossen und sofort begriffen, dass er mich aus der fürchterlichen Ödnis des sogenannten „Minimal“ retten wird. Weder Hip Hop noch Drum’n’Bass habe ich je systematisch auf dem Radar gehabt. Beim Diggen bin ich auf Wiley gestossen und habe Grime dann auch an den ersten Dubstep-Partys gehört… Auch wenn ich durchaus höre, inwiefern Grime ein wichtiger Vorläufer von Dubstep ist: Es hat nie gefunkt! Diese Musik findet mir zu sehr im Intellekt statt. Die Instrumentals erscheinen mir oft kalt, und die Raps zelebrieren eine wütende Hektik. Grime hat leider unfreiwillig bewiesen, wie schlecht Hass als treibendes Moment für die Entwicklung einer Kunstform taugt, die darauf angewiesen ist, dass Menschen zusammen kommen und ihr Ego auch zurück stellen können. Mir fehlen die Kombination von Energie, Wärme und Räumlichkeit, die ich im Dub, Techno, House und eben auch Dubstep seit jeher suche – und auch finde.»

«Weder Jungle noch Grime sind je ganz verschwunden. Sie haben sich im Untergrund gehalten und aktuelle ästhetische Momente wie auch Produktions-Techniken aufgenommen. Was ihre rhythmische Struktur anbelangt, sind sie wohl die Eltern von Dubstep – wenn’s um die Ausarbeitung der Bass-Linien und die räumlichen Qualitäten der Sounds geht, sind sie dessen Kinder – sollten es zumindest sein. Ich verweise gerne auf Blackdowns Label „Keysound“, das immer wieder interessante neue Entwürfe von Grime-Tracks heraus bringt. An Dubstep interessiert mich natürlich etwas ganz anderes: Die Verschwisterung mit Dub und Techno!»

«Martyn lässt sich als Produzent und auch DJ weder auf ein Genre noch einen bestimmten Sound festlegen. Was ich an seinen Tracks mag, ist ein gewisses Understatement: Beim schnellen Reinhören sind sie oft unauffällig – gut platziert in einem Set können sie zur Peaktime oft unglaublich rocken: ohne imponierende Effekte und die üblichen Rave-Signale, sondern einfach durch ihre Eigenständigkeit, Dichte und herausragende Produktion. Für mich ist es entscheidend, dass Martyn Detroit-Techno und Chicago-House informiert ist. Mit seinen Wurzeln als D’n’B-Produzent gelingen ihm so originelle Arrangements, die in unterschiedlichen Kontexten ausgezeichnet funktionieren; sei es im Dubstep, Techno oder auch House. Unvergessen ist, wie in unserem Plattenladen P45 Records anfangs 2007 sein Release „Broken“ (Revolve:r) wie frische Semmeln über den Ladentisch ging – dabei verkauften wir damals gar keine Musik mit über 130bpm aus dem Breakbeat / Jungle / Grime / Garage / 2-Step / Dubstep-Sektor!
Last but not least: In der äusserst bescheidenen Form, wie es in diesem Business üblich ist, verbindet mich mit Martyn so etwas wie eine Freundschaft, denn wir hatten immer eine ausgesprochen gute Zeit zusammen, wenn er in Zürich zum Spielen weilte.»
