«Vor ziemlich genau einem Jahr bin ich via Soundcloud auf ein spiel:feld Podcast gestossen, welcher einige Scheiben von Rhythm & Sound und Beat Pharamacy beinhaltete. Schon früher beiläufig von Stücken der besagten Interpreten beeindruckt, machte ich mich auf die Suche nach mehr und wurde nicht zuletzt auch durch new.com's dis ya wot mi gon' likk now-Mix besonders auf Dub aufmerksam. Eigentlich etwas paradox; ich, als auf Dub Techno fokusierter DJ, habe mich bis dahin nie richtig mit dem Ursprung des Stils befasst. Doch mittlerweile besitze ich eine kleine Auswahl von Dub Vinyls in meiner Sammlung, welche ich stets mit weiteren besonderen Scheiben erweitern werde.»

«Ich entdeckte Dub Mitte bis Ende der 90er Jahre mit den G-Stone-Geschichten und den Vienna Scientists-Releases, also eher in elektronisch eingesetzter Form. Von da an griffen die Arme dann sowohl in die Vergangenheit, wie in die unzähligen zukünftigen Äste des noch immer eifrig wachsenden Baumes.»

Nie vergessen werde ich auch meinen ersten Besuch am Nothing Hill Gate Carneval 1995. Die Soundsystem-Kultur am Karneval hatte in der Zeit noch keine auferlegten Gesetze und war kommerziell noch unberührt; jedes Haus, jede Strassenecke war im Groove -  pulsierende Bässe, typische off Shruds/Stabs, mehrheitlich reiner Reggae und Dub, Jamaican/Carribean Power, ein riesen Erlebnis.


Insgesamt war das Entdecken von Dub ein sehr langer Prozess, welcher fast 8 Jahre gedauert hat.»

 «Die erste Berührung mit Dub machte ich im Jahre 1985 eher zufällig, als ich im einzigen Plattenladen der Stadt Zug die Dub Syndicate-Platte North Of The River Thames gekauft hatte und auf einen Schlag mitten im Geschehen war. Die LP wurde auf dem damals sehr wichtigen Label On-U Sound veröffentlicht und von Adrian Sherwood produziert, sowie neben dem Dub Syndicate von Augustus Pablo auf der Melodica begleitet. Mit diesen Koordinaten kommt man schon recht tief rein in den Dub.»

 «Dub hatte ich das erste Mal durch Radio Dadio in Biel, ein Steppers-Dub Soundsystem, kurz nach der Jahrtausendwende wahrgenommen. Ich hörte schon als Teenie Dub (Kiffen und so), aber so richtig bewusst setze ich mich mit Dub durch den Kontakt mit Zenit, Dada (heute Jah Kabra) und Koolkat auseinander. Ich war damals inmitte der Grime Welle, als plötzlich Dub und Grime sich zu verschmelzen begannen. Eine Offenbarung. Wir vereinten uns dann später zu einer Crew.»

«Vom Techno, House und Dub her kommend, habe ich mir Ende 2006 den Dubstep erschlossen und sofort begriffen, dass er mich aus der fürchterlichen Ödnis des sogenannten „Minimal“ retten wird. Weder Hip Hop noch Drum’n’Bass habe ich je systematisch auf dem Radar gehabt. Beim Diggen bin ich auf Wiley gestossen und habe Grime dann auch an den ersten Dubstep-Partys gehört… Auch wenn ich durchaus höre, inwiefern Grime ein wichtiger Vorläufer von Dubstep ist: Es hat nie gefunkt! Diese Musik findet mir zu sehr im Intellekt statt. Die Instrumentals erscheinen mir oft kalt, und die Raps zelebrieren eine wütende Hektik. Grime hat leider unfreiwillig bewiesen, wie schlecht Hass als treibendes Moment für die Entwicklung einer Kunstform taugt, die darauf angewiesen ist, dass Menschen zusammen kommen und ihr Ego auch zurück stellen können. Mir fehlen die Kombination von Energie, Wärme und Räumlichkeit, die ich im Dub, Techno, House und eben auch Dubstep seit jeher suche – und auch finde.»

«Wann ich Grime das erste Mal wahrgenommen habe? Als erstes kommt mir da das Vex'd Album Degenerate (Planet Mu, 2005) in den Sinn. Allerdings wahrscheinlich vor allem darum, weil das in Bezug auf die neuen Grime-Sachen im Rückblick interessant ist - das hat ja mit Grime selbst schon wieder nur bedingt zu tun. Wiley's 'Wot do you call it?' von dessen Debut-Album Treddin' on Thin Ice auf XL (2004) war damals der Titelgeber für eine unserer Partyreihen im Luzerner Treibhaus. Aber das was man im Englischen als 'Epiphany' bezeichnen würde - das hatte ich mit Dizzee Rascal's Album 'Boy in da Corner' (XL Recordings) von 2003. Das hat schon einen unglaublichen Eindruck auf mich gemacht.»
